Join School Direct Providers from across Northamptonshire for information, help and advice on how to train to teach.

We are looking for career changers, graduates or current students to train to teach in primary and secondary schools across Northamptonshire. Our School Direct programmes offer you a school-based route to Qualified Teacher Status, combining in-school training with experienced teachers, with the academic knowledge to underpin your teaching practice.

There are 2 presentations by experienced school leaders during the evening (5:15pm and 6:15pm). They will give you information about the training courses, how to get school experience as well as advice on how to write an effective personal statement.

Representatives from all of Northamptonshire's School Direct teacher training providers will be on hand to chat to you about the courses they offer. To view the range of courses that are on offer please visit the Teach Northamptonshire website, where you will be able to search for providers offering training as either primary school teachers or in specific secondary subjects.

Developing Governance

This course is designed for school governors who have been in post for a period of time and who would like to develop their skills further. The course is designed to challenge the critical thinking skills of governors and to explore in more depth the knowledge and skills needed to undertake the role of school governors and board member.

Subjects include;

  • Challenging conversations
  • Responsibilities to the Head Teacher
  • Handling allegations/complaints
  • Understanding panel work
  • Identifying strategic and operational roles
  • Data considerations
  • Evaluating the board
  • Performance management considerations
  • Financial questions for the School Business Manager
